“I love that this itinerary was adjusted to the most scenic parts of the trail. The food blew me away, I was not expecting much of England but it was phenomenal. I thought the hikes were great in terms of pace and distance per day. They varied according to weather and conditions. I loved that the guides brought a great variety of snacks and treats every day. I felt this was very good value for the price. The scenery was much better than I expected.” - England Coast to Coast guest
The sweeping, pastoral valleys of England’s Lake District and the wild moorlands of the Yorkshire Dales aroused the creative spirit in Wordsworth, Coleridge, Keats, and Tennyson. Even if England’s famous Coast to Coast walk, which spans these historic landscapes, fails to make a poet out of you, it is undeniably romantic.
The Coast to Coast Walk was pioneered by Alfred Wainwright, who first visited the Lake District in 1930. “I was utterly enslaved by all I saw,” he said. “There were no huge factories, but mountains; no stagnant canals, but sparkling crystal-clear rivers; no cinder paths, but beckoning tracks that clamber through bracken and heather to the silent fastness of the hills. That week changed my life.” Alpenwild takes you on the best of the best hikes along this epic route.
Scenic National Parks
A week hiking three of England’s most treasured national parks is life changing. Our route links the Irish Sea on England’s west with the North Sea on the east, winding through the hills, moors, and valleys of the North Country. It begins in the Cumbrain Mountains by climbing Scafell Pike, England's highest peak, then traverses Yoorshire through the Pennine Range, known as “England’s Backbone” and through three magnificent national parks: the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and the North York Moors.
Expert Guides Unfold the Natural Wonders
Despite its celebrated reputation, the Coast to Coast Walk has no official designation and almost no markings, so it doesn’t invite the crowds you might expect on such a treasured trail. You’re guided by a certified International Mountain Leader—one born and raised in England—who can’t wait to share the history, lore, and natural wonders of this land with you.
You'll stay in carefully chosen inns and small hotels which feature great locations with a high standard of comfort and quality. These inns offer a superbly satisfying mix of a welcoming atmosphere, traditional cuisine, and authentic charm. You’ll travel light, with just a daypack, while your luggage is shuttled to meet you on arrival in the afternoon.
You conclude your walk at Robin Hood’s Bay with welcome coastal views and dramatic cliffs hovering above the North Sea. It’s a fitting end to a truly classic walk filled with inspiring landscapes and constantly unfolding beauty
