The moment you arrive in Leukerbad and see its incredible beauty with mountains and cliffs towering above you on all sides, you know you’re in for a great getaway. Leukerbad is set in a high mountain valley below the famed Gemmi Pass, which you’ll want to cross—just as Jules Verne, Mark Twain, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and countless other 19th century travelers did, back when Leukerbad was the primary trade and travel route between Bern and the Rhone Valley. But Leukerbad’s roots go back even further—to Roman times and earlier.
Leukerbad is the largest thermal spa resort in the Alps. Its thermal baths produce over 3.9 million liters of bubbling mineral water every day with a temperature of 51°C (121°F) to fill its pools. Your Alpenwild Getaway includes admission to the luxurious indoor and outdoor pools at the Walliser Alpentherme close to your beautiful hotel. The health benefits of Leukerbad’s thermal waters are ideally suited to the healing and prevention of muscular-skeletal diseases such as rheumatism, arthritis, and gout. A state-of-the art purification process far exceeds the legal requirements and the quality of the water is tested internally on a daily basis.
When you’re not hiking, riding the local mountain cableways, or relaxing in the thermal pools, the village of Leukerbad has much to offer with its traditional large timbered Valasian farm buildings and chalets, spread throughout the village along with a variety of shopping options.
