Arrive in Lucerne and spend the day strolling through the charming Old Town with its preserved medieval buildings adorned with vibrant frescoes. As you explore, be sure to visit Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge), a landmark dating back to the 14th century. Take a leisurely walk across the bridge and enjoy the scenic views of the Reuss River as it winds through the heart of the city. One of the most emotional and unforgettable stops in Lucerne is the Lion Monument, a poignant and powerful sculpture carved into a rock face. After taking in the history and culture of Lucerne's Old Town, you can unwind by heading to the peaceful Lake Promenade that stretches along the shores of Lake Lucerne.
From Lucerne, you can embark on a delightful journey to Mt. Rigi, known as the "Queen of the Mountains." The adventure begins with a scenic boat ride from Lucerne to the charming lakeside town of Vitznau, located on the southeastern shore of Lake Lucerne. Upon arriving in Vitznau, you’ll board the historic cogwheel train, which is the first of its kind in Europe. At the summit of Mt. Rigi, located at 1,798 meters (5,898 feet) above sea level, you'll be rewarded with some of the most spectacular panoramic views in Switzerland. After taking in the views, you can choose to descend the same way by cogwheel train or opt for a different experience by taking the cable car to the town of Weggis, where you can catch a boat back to Lucerne. If you have time, be sure to include other highlights in or near Lucerne such as the Glass factory in Hergiswil or the Transportation Museum in Lucerne. (B)
